Social and Physical Effects of
Acne
While acne is known to affect
different areas of the physical body, this kind of skin
problem can also bring adverse effect to a person’s
social
interaction and behavior towards different kinds of people.
Acne Vulgaris affects a great majority of teens and young
adults yet, with the emergence of different medications and
treatments, acne can be treated if provided with optimum
means and methods.
Social and physical effects
of acne are clearly manifested with the way people see
themselves and how other people treat them. People suffering
from acne loses a lot of things in their lives all due to
one condition that they all regret of having, the formation
of acne. During puberty years where teenagers are considered
active and vibrant and making full potential of their
capabilities in honing their skills comes a time in their
lives where breakouts materializes and acne becomes the
major culprit. This often results to the loss of self-esteem
and confidence in their own selves. They tend to depart the
idea of mingling with different kinds of people they come
across with all due to being self-conscious of their
physical appearance. Therefore, social relationships and
interactions suffer.
Furthermore, the feeling of
embarrassment and shame are the most often emotions
dominating teenagers and young adults suffering from this
kind of condition. This does not only cause withdrawal from
social interactions for it can be a cause of a person’s
inability to do and act more in terms of academic and other
extra curricular activities at school. There may also be
times where a teen would find different means of curing acne
as they tend to self medicate themselves that will only do
more harm than good. Oftentimes, extreme indulgence to
treatments and cleansing solutions paved the way to other
physical and skin infections that would only aggravate and
worsen the skin condition.
Teenagers, adolescents and
even adults stricken by acne have a deep longing for the
sense of belongingness and acceptance. As they try and made
their way to belong and be accepted in a circle of people
turns up the pressure of rejection. People nowadays have
been trying different ways to look good and acquiring acne
would definitely affect their appearance and how they
interact with people. Appearance is known to be an
influential factor especially when talks about peer status
and belongingness enter. If you have acne and don’t look
attractive people tend to isolate you making your social
behavior and your life in general all the more affected.
Social and physical effects
of acne can really be self damaging and destructive. Given
this condition, it is essential that parents and support
groups would employ open communication with their children
and to people suffering from acne. Acne stricken people
generally developed depression due to untreated acne and
they began to take no heed of their capabilities as a person
and focus on their weaknesses and physical impairment. This
is an alarming and complex state and should therefore be
resolved without hurting a person’s self-worth and
self-esteem.
