Vitamins for Acne: Roles in Acne Treatment

Vitamins are nutrients made up of organic compounds and usually taken in small amount by our bodies. Good sources of vitamins are fruits and vegetables. It is unfortunate that a lot of us have ignored this fact and therefore overlooked the benefits that we can get from vitamins. Aside from being health supplements, vitamins can also be used for the treatment of acne. Yes, it’s true that several vitamins can be beneficial in reducing the damaging effects of acne.

Starting with Vitamin A, it helps in the maintenance and repair of the body. It also reduces the production of sebum which directly affects acne. Vitamin B helps maintain healthy skin tone and relieve both anxiety as well as stress. Stress is one of the leading causes of acne flare up, managing stress with the use Vitamin B can help reduce acne. Vitamin C and the bioflavonoid are powerful antioxidants that have an antibacterial effect. This antibacterial effect helps in getting rid of bacteria deposited in the skin.

Adequate portions of Chromium also help in the management of acne because this also works as an antibacterial thus reduces skin infections. Zinc is another good nutrient that helps in reducing acne. It works by regulating the activity of oil glands hence can also help in the prevention of overproducing sebum. Another excellent antioxidant is Vitamin E, as an antioxidant it aids in eliminating toxins and other hazardous substance in our bodies. Reduction of toxins is also useful in alleviating the effects of acne.

Although vitamins are only needed in certain quantities to maintain the processes within our bodies, we should not overlook the importance of these nutrients. If there’s an occasion that our vitamin intake is less than adequate, many of our body’s systems are affected.

Believing that vitamins really have a beneficial effect on many things including acne,  we should then make a wise choice taking these together with any medication prescribed by your doctor. Of course, we have to make sure that combining these vitamins with medicine will not in any way have adverse effects.
